BC PADDLESPORT LEADER 

The British Canoeing Paddlesport Leader award allows paddlers to lead others in both the open water environment (in winds up to Force 3) and on gently flowing moving water (inland and/or tidal), in a variety of craft.  It is an excellent bolt-on for the Level 1 Coach/Paddlesport Instructor, giving them the skills to work autonomously.  An ideal course for outdoor instructors and club members alike.

The Training course is 2 days and includes: personal skills coaching, looking at practical leadership principles for leading multi-craft journeys and experiences, as well as work-shopping a variety of multi-craft rescues.

The Assessment course is 1 day and involves assessing your personal skills, your ability to lead a real multi-craft group in both the open water and gently moving water environments competently and confidently, your theoretical knowledge, as well as your ability to execute slick and practised multi-craft rescues.

On-going mentored support, comprehensive course notes, detailed individualised feedback and action plans included as standard.

BC WHITE WATER KAYAK LEADER

This award qualifies white water kayak paddlers to lead others in the Grade 2(3) environment, providing white water journeys and experiences that skilfully balance support and challenge.

The Training course is 3 days and includes: personal skills coaching of the very latest modern white water techniques, a rescue skills session and comprehensive leadership training centred around efficient and effective leadership principles.  A bonus third day gives the invaluable opportunity to put it all in context, and lead a group of real paddlers in a relaxed and supportive environment.

 

The Assessment course is 2 days and will assess your personal skills, your ability to lead a small group of paddlers in the grade 2(3) environment in a way which balances support and challenge, theoretical knowledge and your white water safety and rescue skills.

On-going mentored support, comprehensive course notes, detailed individualised feedback and action plans included as standard.

BC SEA KAYAK LEADER

The British Canoeing Sea Kayak Leader Award allows sea kayakers to lead groups in the moderate water environment: winds to Force 4 and sea state 4, providing sea kayak journeys and experiences that skilfully balance support and challenge.

The Training course is 3 days and involves: one day completing the British Canoeing Coastal Navigation and Tidal Planning (CNTP) course which is predominantly classroom based.  The following two days are then spent focusing on: developing personal skills in the moderate water environment with modern and individualised coaching, exploring forward-thinking leadership principles, developing navigation skills and work-shopping rescue skills and scenario management on the sea.  

The CNTP is available as a stand alone course, or if you have already completed this, you can join us on Day 2 or come along for it as a refresher.

 

The Assessment course is 2 days and involves: an assessment of personal skills, rescue skills and scenario management, navigation and tidal planning skills and leading a small group of real paddliers, all in the moderate water environment.

The Training course is 3 days and involves: a day of moving water personal skills on grade 2 white water including traditional skills of lining and poling, a day of leadership on a grade 2 section of river, and a day of personal skills, rescues and leadership on open water in force 4 winds.

The Assessment course is 2 days and involves: a day on open water (winds to Force 4) and a day on moving water (grade 2).  Both days will assess personal skills, rescue techniques and leading a small group of real paddlers.
