BC FOUNDATION SAFETY and RESCUE TRAINING

(FSRT)

The British Canoeing Foundation Safety and Rescue Training course is the ideal first step for outdoor instructors, club members or indeed any recreational paddlers, who are keen to learn the fundamental safety principles and rescue skills, that will ensure you and your group are more likely to have the great time on the water that you planned.  This 1 day course takes place in the sheltered water environment and explores: all important safety principles to keep you and your group out of trouble, safe manual handling techniques, efficient and effective boat emptying skills, along with simple strategies for boat and bank based rescues.

For 2 star award holders, this training can be ideally combined with the Paddlesport Instructor Award course to make a 5 day package.

BC WHITE WATER SAFETY and RESCUE

(WWSR)

The British Canoeing White Water Safety and Rescue Training course is an absolute must for any white water kayaker or canoeist, be they a recreational boater, club paddler or leader/coach.  

This 2 day course explores the fundamental principles of safety that will keep you and your group safe on the river, with an emphasis on staying out of trouble in the first place.  The rescue elements involve exploring: safe swimming in white water, wading and moving people across the river, rescuing swimmers from the bank using a variety of methods, boat based rescues, scenario management, rope work systems and equipment retrieval.  Rest assured you will leave better prepared to head out and enjoy those river trips, more secure in the knowledge of being able to prevent problems or fix them if necessary.  Our course providers bring a wealth of experience to ensure you leave with solutions that work.

The course takes place in the Grade 2 and 3 environment and is a pre-requisite for both the Canoe Leader Award and White Water Kayak Leader Award.  We regularly run training courses for these awards together with this course as 4 and 5 day packages - please see details here, or contact us to discuss this further.

BC ADVANCED WHITE WATER SAFETY and RESCUE (AWWSR)

The British Canoeing Advanced White Water Safety and Rescue Training course builds on the material of the standard course (see above) and explores the essential safety principles for white water kayakers running Grade 4 and above.  In addition, we examine more complex scenario management which can happen in the advanced water environment and rely on the creative use of core skills as a team rather than a set piece approach.  This will include more complex rope work systems, generating and controlling loads on the rope, steep ground management, dealing with vertical pins, placing swimmers into the current and managing them safely, and dealing with emergency situations.  Our course providers bring a wealth of experience to ensure you leave with well solutions that work.  This course is a must for any white water paddler who paddles grade 4 and above.

This course takes place on up to grade 4 and is a pre-requisite for the Advanced White Water Kayak Leader Award.  We often run training courses for this award together with this AWWSR course as 4 day packages - please see details here, or contact us to discuss this further.

BC COASTAL NAVIGATION and TIDAL PLANNING (CNTP)

The British Canoeing Coastal Navigation and Tidal Planning course is a must for any sea kayaker, whether they are a recreational paddler, club member or aspirant leader, guide or coach.  This 1 day classroom-based course gives you the fundamental knowledge of weather, tides and navigation in order for you to plan safe trips and ensure you can have the best adventures on the sea.  Rest assured this is a practical course with lots of group involvement and activities, together with plenty of practice at trip planning, to enable you to leave safe in the knowledge you can plan your next trip well.  Our course providers bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to show you what works, and break down the complex weather and tidal theory into simple language all can understand.

This award is a pre-requisite for the Sea Kayak Leader award.  We regularly run this course together with Sea Kayak Leader training courses - please see more details here or contact us for more information.
