SEA KAYAK EXPEDITIONS

SMALL ISLES EXPEDITION

The islands of Eigg, Rum, Canna and Muck off the West Coast of Scotland offer a truly stunning expedition location for the Intermediate sea kayaker.  This group of islands hosts an array of wildlife, stunning coastlines, breathtaking scenery and island communities with a rich history and fantastic local people.  Crossing between the islands, with the right conditions, takes just a few hours at most, and a regular ferry service allows for plenty of options and backup options.  The southern end of Skye and Knoydart are also not far away.

The trip will start and finish from Mallaig, where vehicles can be left.  From there, the adventure begins, starting by either taking the ferry to one of the islands, or paddling across to the southern end of Skye.  Our journey from there on in will be dependent on weather and conditions, as well as aspirations of the team.

Working together with highly experienced sea kayak guide Roddy McDowell, this is a 5 day camping expedition taking all our food and equipment with us in the boats with the aim of being self-sufficient for the duration of the expedition.  This gives us the opportunity to truly explore these stunning islands unrestricted, being closer to nature sleeping under canvas and have the social enjoyment of cooking, and perhaps sharing a "wee dram" together in the evenings, sharing stories of the day's paddle.

Matt and Roddy will foster a team ethos from the outset, and all trip planning and tidal calculations will of course always be shared and chatted through as a group throughout the expedition.

Who the trip is for:

The trip is appropriate for the "Intermediate" sea kayaker.  As a minimum you should have spent some time in stronger winds and some swell, and be efficient and confident at being rescued by someone else.  You should also be well practiced at outdoor cooking your own food and wild camping.  If you're unsure whether this is the right trip for you, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

SHETLAND GUIDED WEEK

For the sea kayaker, Shetland is quite simply one of the finest destinations in the world for awe inspiring scenery, towering cliffs and countless stunning caves.  A stunning array of wildlife and seabirds, islands rich in history and tradition, and some of the finest sea kayak trips that you could ever dream of all await you.

This guided week aims to take in as many of the classic trips as the weather and the swell allows us to - Muckle Roe, Papa Stour, Muckle Flugga, Mussa and Sumburgh Head are just some of the locations on the hit list.  As always, it will depend on the conditions, but beyond these trips there is so much more on offer, as every inch of the coastline is quite simply fantastic and warrants exploration, if shelter needs to be sought.

The trip includes all guiding from expert coaches/guides who have paddled on Shetland numerous times.  We ask that you source your own accommodation close to the village of Brae on the Shetland Mainland, and your own food also.  Equipment and transport to the islands is also not included, but there are daily overnight ferry services from Aberdeen.

We look forward to sharing this incredible sea kayak destination with you.
