Matt Haydock

Rapid Development is owned and operated by Matt Haydock, a professional full-time paddlesports coach and guide based in Fort William, in the magnificent Scottish Highlands.

Matt is never happier than when he is on the water in a boat, ever since his first experience on the urban rivers of North Manchester.  Paddling has taken him to some amazing places, from white water paddling on Norway's creeks to Stand Up Paddleboarding in Malta, open canoeing in the gorges of southern France and sea kayaking in the tide races of the Pentland Firth.

Matt is a highly qualified and experienced multi-disciplined coach and guide; as well as a being a well established British Canoeing coach educator, safety award provider and leadership award trainer/assessor across the disciplines, to an advanced level.  He is a National Trainer with the Scottish Canoe Association which involves training, assessing, supporting and developing aspirant providers.  Matt also sits on a British Canoeing Technical Committee - a group of experienced providers who shaping the development of the British Canoeing award scheme and provide technical advice.

He has worked across the outdoor education sector for over 15 years, and holds a BSc (Hons.) degree in Sport and Exercise Science from the Univesity of Leeds.

Matt is also a team paddler for Pyranha Kayaks, P&H Sea Kayaks, Venture Canoes, as well as being a brand ambassador for NRS Europe. 

To go with a huge passion for boating, Matt loves inspiring others to share his passion; whether he is introducing folks to paddling for the first time, developing their skills in more advanced environments or guiding them in stunning wild places.



Rapid Development also has a close team of carefully selected associate coaches and guides, with whom we often collaborate, and who join us to deliver on courses.  Rest assured they also share our coaching philosophy, have a wealth of experience, the necessary qualifications, and will strive to give you the best possible time on the water.
